Transgender Veteran Visibility: Every Veteran Has a Story

A veterans panel about hidden service, visibility, and recognition

An inclusive veterans panel that brings LGBTQ+ and transgender service into view while inviting every veteran in the room forward.

There are more veterans among us than many people realize.

About the presentation

Substance before slogans.

Veterans are often present in the room without being recognized. For many LGBTQ+ and transgender veterans, service also meant keeping important parts of themselves quiet or hidden while continuing to contribute.

Erika opens the conversation by recognizing that hidden service. She then invites every veteran in the room to come forward—not only transgender and LGBTQ+ veterans, but every person who has served.

No single veteran is expected to speak for everyone. Each person brings a different branch, era, responsibility, identity, and experience. No form of service is ranked above another, and no one is pressured to disclose more than they choose.

The conversation grows from the people who are there. Veterans may share what service meant to them, what remained unseen, what they carried forward, and what they want others to understand. If the whole room has served, the chairs can move into a circle and the panel can become a shared conversation.

Every veteran has a story, and everyone who served deserves to be recognized.
